Two apps, one audience
Dua and embla are aimed at the same people: Albanians looking online for someone with a similar background. The difference lies less in who than in how. Dua is the established name, with the larger community and a more social approach. embla is younger and built more consistently around serious intentions and real profiles.
One difference belongs right at the start, because it frames everything else: you can download Dua today, but not embla. embla has not launched in the App Store yet, and anyone who wants in early can join the waiting list at embla-app.com. So this comparison puts an app that has been running for years next to a concept with fixed rules and fixed prices. Where we judge embla, we are judging those rules, not experience of using the app day to day.
How you find people: browsing profiles or answering a question
Dua works the way most dating apps work: you set up a profile, look through other people's profiles and show interest when someone catches your eye. It is familiar and quick. If you have ever used a dating app, you will find your way around in minutes.
embla takes a different route, because there is no swiping. Every day there is a daily question, and once you answer it you see other people's answers at a table with eight seats. Contact only ever starts from a specific sentence or a specific photo of the other person, never blind. What someone says is at the centre, not how fast you can flick through faces.
Which style suits you is not a side issue. If you like choosing for yourself and want to see lots of profiles, you will feel more at home on Dua. If you are tired of swiping and would rather start a conversation from a thought, embla's principle is the better fit.
Community and reach
Dua has the clear lead here. By its own account it has more than 1.1 million registered users worldwide, and in our ratings Dua scores higher on reach than embla. More active profiles mean more possible contacts, especially outside the big diaspora cities. If you want to see lots of people quickly, Dua gives you more choice.
embla starts from zero, and that is not something to talk away. Nobody knows today how big the circle will be in Zurich, Stuttgart or Prishtina after launch. The concept deliberately does not rely on numbers: a table with eight seats still makes sense when there are not thousands of people nearby. Real profiles and verification
embla requires photo verification: a selfie is matched against the profile photos. That is meant to make fake profiles noticeably rarer, which matters in smaller communities, where people run into each other quickly and a fake profile can do real damage. Whether it holds up in everyday use as well as planned is something we will check after launch.

First contact: like, spark and answer spark
On Dua you show interest through the other person's profile. How much you can then write without a subscription is exactly where most of the criticism of the app comes from. On embla a like is called a ‘spark’. It has no words and is always tied to a particular sentence or photo, so the other person sees what you reacted to. Five sparks a day are free, and with embla+ they are unlimited.
There is also the answer spark: a short text replying to one of the other person's sentences, which lands straight in their chat. One a day is free, five with embla+. If the other person writes back, you are connected. It is a way of reaching out with substance instead of blind swiping, and it makes both sides respond to something specific.
The scarcity is intentional. If you only have one answer spark a day, you think about who to send it to. For people who get dozens of identical messages elsewhere, that can make a noticeable difference.
Cost and fairness
On embla, ‘Who likes you’ is free for everyone, so you never have to pay to see who is interested in you. There is no boost, no spotlight and no paid way to stand out. If you want more, embla+ costs €8.99 a month, less if you take three or six months, and there is a day pass for €1.99.
Among other things, embla+ gives you a table that keeps refilling with up to 100 people a day, unlimited sparks, five answer sparks a day and finer filters for origin, intentions, religion, wanting children and minimum height. Distance, age and language stay free for everyone.
Dua can also be used for free, but it puts more of what matters for actually meeting people behind a paid subscription. In a Reddit AMA the founder himself confirmed that free use is deliberately very limited. That is why embla scores higher on fair pricing in our ratings, with the caveat that we will check the prices again after launch.
What we do not know about embla yet
An honest comparison names its gaps too. With embla we do not know how many people will actually join after launch, what the balance of women and men will look like, or how the daily question feels after months rather than the first few days. Those are exactly the points on which new apps often succeed or fail.
Our scores for embla are therefore based on its concept and pricing, and they are provisional. Once it is in the App Store we will use the app ourselves, as we do every other app in the comparison, and adjust the rating. That can mean a lower score, too, if the rules do not deliver in everyday use what they promise.
Verdict: who is each app for?
If you want to start today, with the widest choice and a large, active community, Dua is the obvious pick. Expect to need a subscription for serious dating, and test the app thoroughly before you pay for several months.
If real profiles, serious intentions and a fair free tier matter to you, and you have had enough of swiping, embla fits better on paper. Until it launches, there is the waiting list. Many people will use both side by side at first and then stay with the app whose conversations feel more genuine.
