balkanhearts compares dating apps from the perspective of the Albanian community in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and back home. The site has three parts: a comparison of six apps across eight criteria, guides on dating, family and diaspora life, and pages on ten cities in the German-speaking world where many Albanians live.
Who writes here
This site is written by a small editorial team. We do not name individual authors, and we do not invent any to look more trustworthy. If you want to reach us with a tip, a correction or a question, you will find the operator's contact details in the legal notice.
What we compare
The comparison covers Dua, embla, Tinder, Bumble, Hinge and Badoo, meaning the two culturally Albanian apps and the big international ones that are widely used in the diaspora and back home. Every app is rated on the same eight criteria, each from 1 to 5: seriousness, fair pricing, gender balance, Albanian fit, verification, usability, privacy and reach.
How we work
The scores come from our own use of the apps that are already available, from providers' public information on prices, features and data handling, from user reviews in the app stores and from reports by people in the community. We award no points for a feature we can neither check ourselves nor back up with the provider's own information.
The embla exception
The app has not launched in the App Store yet. For embla we therefore rate the concept, rules and pricing as published by the provider; there is no hands-on use and there are no reviews yet. Those scores are provisional, and we say so wherever embla appears. After launch we will use the app ourselves and adjust the rating, downwards too if need be.
Why we weight
For Albanians looking for a partner, cultural fit, serious intent and verification matter more than the sheer size of the pool. Those three criteria therefore count more towards the diaspora score than the rest, and the ranking is sorted by that score. The individual scores stay visible so you can weight things differently if something else matters more to you.
What the guides do
The guides describe what is different about dating in the Albanian community, from the language on your profile and the first visit to the family to a long-distance relationship with someone back home. They draw on generally available knowledge about traditions, diaspora life and the apps, not on surveys of our own. Where we have no reliable figure, we do not print one.
What this site is not
There is no matchmaking here, no member profiles and no sign-up. You leave no data here apart from a cookieless visitor count, described in the privacy policy. Nor do we give legal advice on visas or residence; for that we point you to the responsible authorities.
How we are funded
Links to providers may earn a commission. It is structured the same way for every app we compare and it changes no score.
How we correct
Prices, features and rules change, especially with younger apps. We recheck the ratings regularly and keep the date of the last check visible on the comparison page. Anything outdated gets corrected in the next round rather than quietly left standing. If you spot a mistake, write to us using the contact details in the legal notice.
What we do not stand for
No rankings sorted by commission, no invented user voices, no success stories of individual couples and no success rates without a solid source. Where a figure comes from a provider's own marketing, we say so. And when we cannot answer a question, it stays open rather than being filled with a plausible guess.
